During its 24th annual gala held at The Pierre Hotel in New York City on November 7, 2019, the charity honored actress Vanessa Bayer with the Gilda Radner Award. She has appeared on seven seasons of Saturday Night Live, starred in movies such as Train Wreck, and is a cancer survivor and advocate.
Her comedy career was inspired by her childhood cancer experience, which also inspired her to write her new children’s book, How Do You Care for a Very Sick Bear?, which was released in June 2019.
Other people were also honored at the gala, which raised more than $850,000 to be used to help fund the nonprofit’s endeavors.
